Nina Jerome: Along The Edge
ALONG THE EDGE
Elizabeth Moss Gallery – May 24 – July 20
“Maine quarries are resilient, overgrown environments that can impart a feeling of hidden or intimate sanctuaries, and are like monuments in scale and permanence. Memories of the 19th Century granite industry exist in their disrupted surfaces and scattered granite fragments. Their vertical surfaces contrast with the fluid movement that fills their pits with reflections of light and nature that grows along the perimeter. These qualities have fueled my painting process for the past four years.
I also enjoy walking or paddling along Maine shorelines which share some qualities with quarries, and provide their own monument to geological history. I am drawn to the edges between solid and fluid, stillness and movement, and weight and light.”
