Painter Anne Neely has spent decades crafting expansive, expressive abstractions about the natural world, and specifically water resources, in horizontal formats. After a 2024 diagnosis of ovarian cancer, Neely’s focus changed. Poured explosions of paint representing her tumor gave way to elegant ribbons of color shifting and opening, in vertical compositions – more portrait, or self-portrait, than landscape. Now in remission, she says on the gallery’s website, “these ‘veils’ or ‘ribbons’ evoked a see-through world from a distance, to see the ‘light.’” Through Aug. 15.
